The Gempen tower comprises 5 levels, is 28 metres high and made of steel. The tower offers a wonderful view of the Basel area, Alsace, the Vosges mountains, Basel itself and the Black Forest, making it a popular spot to visit. Entry is via a turnstile and costs a franc. The ‘Gempenturm’ restaurant can be found right next to it.
The tower sits in the forest on the edge of the Gempen plateau. The nearest bus stop in Gempen village is about a half-hour walk away. There are plenty of good hiking trails around the tower, some involving steep climbs.
