The extensive, 13.5-hectare, colourful natural space that is the Merian Gardens is an oasis of calm, well-being and relaxation. A walk among the sweet-scented plant collections and cultivated parklands will enable you to gradually let go of your everyday worries and arrive at a place of calm instead. The old trees and historic buildings give this place a very special air. A stop at the Café Merian is the perfect end to this worthwhile visit.
You can visit Europe’s largest publicly accessible collection of irises or, at the other end of the museum building, test your botanical knowledge in the maze, where, the quicker you identify the plants correctly, the quicker you’ll find your way out.
All manner of cultural events are held here, including exhibitions, guided tours, lectures and courses, Sunday-afternoon matinées, open-air theatre productions and concerts. A trip to the Mühlemuseum (mill museum) will take you right back to olden times. Art lovers will enjoy the sculptural monuments in the Merian Gardens, while children will love the playground area.
