In front of the Augusta Raurica museum in Augst you will find – almost as an introduction to the Roman town – the largest bronze model ever made of a Roman town. At 14 m² across and weighing 1.2 tons, it gives an excellent idea of the size and splendour of the former metropolis. You can see – and touch – temples, theatres, villa districts and the craft quarter. The imposing theatre, the authentically decorated Roman villa, the mysterious well shaft, the largest hoard of Late Antiquity silver, and the cute animals in the zoo, are all there to be discovered, either as part of a guided tour or at your own leisure. You will get a particularly good impression of the ruins during the annual Roman festival, in which more than 700 people take part, or at a show in the theatre, where the thrilling atmosphere makes it feel like it did 1800 years ago.
