Dichter- und Stadtmuseum

The museum displays works by local poets and illustrates the history and traditions of the town of Liestal.

As you might guess from the name, this museum is not only dedicated to the history of Liestal but also its local poets. Of course, the topics of history, customs and fine arts are well represented and there is also an ongoing roster of exciting special exhibitions.  All the way back in 1922, the Liestal teacher Justus Stöcklin affectionately referred to Basel-Landschaft’s capital as the ‘Nest of Poets’ in his book of the same name. Not only are there exhibits about Nobel Prize winner Carl Spitteler but also about Emma and Georg Herwegh, Jonas Breitenstein, Josef Viktor Widmann and others.
